Best Payroll Software and Global Payroll

Payroll and global payroll compared: Zoho Payroll, Gusto, Deel and Papaya Global. Which fits one country, which fits twenty, and what each costs you.

Payroll is the one HR system where a mistake is felt by everybody in the company within a day. It is also the one where the right answer depends almost entirely on which countries you pay people in — far more than on features.

How to choose one

Start with geography, because it eliminates most of the market immediately. A platform that files US payroll taxes well is not the platform that handles Indian statutory compliance well, and neither is the one you want for eleven contractors across six countries.

  • One country or several? Multi-country changes the question from payroll software to employer of record.
  • Employees, contractors, or both? Misclassification is the expensive mistake here, and it is a legal question before it is a software one.
  • Who files? Some platforms calculate and hand you the filing. Others file. The gap is somebody’s week, every month.
  • Does it talk to your HRMS? If not, someone re-keys joiners and leavers twice, and that is where errors come from.

The shortlist

Tool Best for Current offer
Zoho Payroll Single-country payroll for teams already using Zoho $100 wallet credits (60 days)
Gusto US small businesses wanting payroll, tax filing and benefits together $100 gift card after first payroll
Deel Hiring contractors and employees across borders $500 in credits
Papaya Global Global payroll and EOR at scale, without local entities Free demo + 3 months EOR and COR

Zoho Payroll

Salary calculation, deductions, payslips and the compliance workflows around them, wired into the rest of the Zoho HR suite so joiners and leavers only get entered once.

Best for: Teams running Zoho People who want payroll to stop being a separate monthly reconciliation.
Worth knowing: Country coverage is limited compared with the global platforms. Confirm your specific market is supported before shortlisting it.
Current offer: $100 in wallet credits, valid 60 days. Claim the offer →

Gusto

US payroll that also files the taxes, handles onboarding paperwork and administers benefits — which for a small American company is most of the HR stack in one subscription.

Best for: US small businesses who want payroll, filings and benefits from one vendor.
Worth knowing: US-only. If any part of your headcount is outside the United States, this is not the whole answer.
Current offer: $100 gift card after you run your first payroll. Claim the offer →

Deel

Hire and pay people in countries where you have no legal entity, as contractors or through an employer of record, with the compliance handled as part of the service.

Best for: Companies with a genuinely distributed team, and anyone whose contractor paperwork has quietly become a risk.
Worth knowing: Per-head EOR pricing adds up quickly. Above a certain headcount in one country, your own entity becomes cheaper — model that break-even before you scale.
Current offer: $500 in credits. Book a demo →

Papaya Global

Global payroll, employer of record and contractor payments built for companies running real headcount across many countries rather than a handful of remote hires.

Best for: Mid-size and larger companies consolidating payroll vendors across multiple markets.
Worth knowing: Aimed higher up the market than Deel. For a small distributed team it is more platform than the problem requires.
Current offer: Free demo plus three months of EOR and COR. Book a demo →

Some links on this page are affiliate links operated by HR Jobs Hub. If you start a trial or buy through one, HR Jobs Hub may earn a commission — at no extra cost to you, and never at a different price than you would pay going direct.

It does not decide what appears here. Tools are listed because HR teams ask about them, and each entry says what the tool is weak at as well as what it is good for. A directory that only ever praises is an advertisement, and HR buyers can tell the difference.
