An HRMS is the system of record for your people data — employee files, leave, attendance, approvals and the workflows that hang off them. Getting it wrong is expensive in a way that is hard to see for about eighteen months, so it is worth spending a fortnight on the decision.
How to choose one
Most HRMS shortlists go wrong the same way: the team compares feature lists, picks the longest one, and discovers a year later that the two things they do every single week are the two things the platform handles badly. Four questions worth more than any feature grid:
- Where does payroll actually run? An HRMS that hands payroll to a separate system is fine — as long as you know that on the day you buy, not the day you go live.
- Which country’s compliance is it built around? Indian statutory requirements, US filings and EU working-time rules are genuinely different problems. Platforms are usually strong at one and adequate at the rest.
- Who does the implementation? The difference between a good and a bad HRMS rollout is almost never the software.
- What happens at 500 employees? Ask about the tier above the one you are buying, because you will be in it sooner than the sales cycle assumes.
The shortlist
| Tool | Best for | Current offer |
|---|---|---|
| Zoho People | Small and mid-size teams already using Zoho | $100 wallet credits (60 days) |
| HROne | India-focused teams wanting HR and payroll in one suite | Up to 10% off annual plans |
| Zoho People Plus | Consolidating several HR workflows in one ecosystem | $100 wallet credits (60 days) |
| Rippling | Scaling companies joining HR, payroll, IT and device management | Free demo |
| Tellent | Teams wanting a modern HRIS with implementation support | Tailored implementation support |
Zoho People
Core HR done sensibly: employee records, leave, attendance, approvals and self-service, without the bloat that usually comes with a suite. The reason it shows up on so many Indian shortlists is price against capability at the small and mid-market end.
Best for: HR operations teams who want the employee lifecycle in one place and do not need a heavyweight enterprise platform.
Worth knowing: It makes most sense if you are already in the Zoho ecosystem, or willing to move into it. Standing alone, the integration story is thinner.
Current offer: $100 in wallet credits, valid 60 days. Claim the offer →
HROne
An Indian HCM suite covering employee data, leave and attendance, payroll and the approval chains around them. Built for Indian statutory requirements from the start rather than adapted to them.
Best for: India-based HR teams who want core HR and payroll from one vendor and are tired of reconciling two systems every month.
Worth knowing: The India focus that makes it strong at home makes it the wrong choice if a meaningful share of your headcount sits outside India.
Current offer: Up to 10% off the annual plan. Book a demo →
Zoho People Plus
The bundled version: Zoho People with recruitment, expenses, analytics and collaboration tools alongside it, licensed together rather than assembled one product at a time.
Best for: Teams who have concluded they need four or five HR tools and would rather buy them once than negotiate five renewals.
Worth knowing: You pay for the bundle whether or not you use all of it. Worth pricing against the individual products you would actually switch on.
Current offer: $100 in wallet credits, valid 60 days. Claim the offer →
Rippling
Unusual in that it treats HR, payroll, IT, device management and app access as one problem. Onboarding a new joiner provisions their laptop and their software logins in the same flow that creates their employee record.
Best for: Fast-growing companies where HR and IT are tripping over each other, and where onboarding involves shipping hardware.
Worth knowing: Substantial for a small team. If you are not going to use the IT side, you are buying a platform for a fraction of what it does.
Current offer: Free demo. Book a demo →
Tellent
A modern HRIS built around employee records and structured HR processes, with recruitment and performance in the same family of products.
Best for: Teams replacing spreadsheets and wanting real help with the migration rather than a login and a documentation link.
Worth knowing: Less widely deployed in India than the Zoho and HROne options, so local reference customers are harder to find. Ask for them specifically.
Current offer: Tailored implementation support. Claim the offer →

Hiring tools sit next door: applicant tracking systems. If payroll is the actual problem, start with payroll software. The full list is in the HR software directory.

How this directory is funded
Some links on this page are affiliate links operated by HR Jobs Hub. If you start a trial or buy through one, HR Jobs Hub may earn a commission — at no extra cost to you, and never at a different price than you would pay going direct.
It does not decide what appears here. Tools are listed because HR teams ask about them, and each entry says what the tool is weak at as well as what it is good for. A directory that only ever praises is an advertisement, and HR buyers can tell the difference.
